The conservation group the Kestrel Land Trust purchased 150 acres late in 2024, permanently conserving a forest in western Massachusetts known as Horse Mountain.
The mountain is an iconic landmark created by two peaks and ridgeline between the towns of Williamsburg and Hatfield.
The Kestrel Land Trust and local conservation commisions worked together in 2017 to conserve 128 acres of forest on the mountain to benefit wildlife, enhance recreational opportunities, and to address climate change. Now, Kestrel has purchased another 150 acres of forest lands on Horse Mountain, ensuring that nearly the entire summit will remain a forest forever.
The original conservation area offers hiking trails managed by Williamsburg Woodland Trails that lead to White Rock, providing a stunning view of the Pioneer Valley.
