Completing a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail is a profound experience.
After spending months hiking the 2,190-mile trail from Georgia to Maine, hikers can experience powerful and complicated emotions as they near the end of their journey.
They can experience deep, personal insights during the trek, and as they near the finish, they can often feel conflicted, on one hand perhaps ready for the hardships to be over, and on the other not wanting to leave the trail and return to civilization.

The folks at Greenbelly, an adventure meal company, interviewed more than 30 hikers as they approached Katahdin and neared the end of their Appalachian Trail experience.
The result is the powerful film, “Made of Grit,” which examines both the physical and mental side of completing the journey. Watch the film below.
