The picture says it all.
A thin strip of white snaking down Black Mountain, surrounded by the light browns and emerging greens of a New Hampshire spring. A sliver of winter clutching and fighting to hold on against a rising tide of warming temperatures and April showers.
But it made it.
While other, much larger New England ski areas have been shut down for weeks, little Black Mountain in Jackson, New Hampshire is skiing into May.
It has taken a lot of work, but those efforts mean Black Mountain will have skiing when it celebrates its 90th Birthday Bash tomorrow, May 3.

Black Mountain officials say the birthday celebration will be the biggest party in the ski area’s 90-year history. They plan to have live music across the mountain, food and drink specials, giveaways, and a massive fireworks display.
And, of course, there will be skiing.
In a post on Facebook, Black Mountain officials said it took a “season of heroic efforts by the entire team has given us skiing in May on Black Mountain. We blew up every boundary with making snow and grooming to get the hill connected, top to bottom.”
The post said the event’s skiing will be great, the parties rowdy, and the vibe all time, adding “The little mountain that could, did.”
