Damage Cleared From Northville-Placid Trail

Forest rangers are often busy rescuing hikers on trails. But recently, several forest rangers in New York helped rescue an iconic trail itself.

New York’s Hamilton, Fulton, and Saratoga counties were hit by several tornadoes and microbursts over the summer. The storms caused significant damage to the Northville-Placid Trail south of Piseco, New York, making the trail difficult for hikers to navigate.

Because of the damage and safety concerns, several New York forest rangers recently joined several foresters and the Northville-Placid Trail Crew and spent a week clearing, signing, and reclaiming the trail over a seven-mile section.

The storm damage has now been cleared and the trail reopened for hikers.
