Helicopter rescue on Mount Monadnock

A hiker suffering a severe medical emergency was rescued by helicopter above treeline on New Hampshire’s Mount Monadnock on Sunday.

According to New Hampshire Fish and Game officials, Monadnock State Park staff were notified at approximately 3:30 p.m. of a hiker on the mountain who was suffering from a possible life-threatening condition.

A crew of park employees met with the hiker to assess her condition and they determined she was experiencing a medical emergency.

New Hampshire Fish and Game was notified of the situation at 4 p.m. and a Boston MedFlight helicopter was contacted due to the time-sensitive nature of the hiker’s condition. At approximately 4:30 p.m., Monadnock State Park rangers began preparing a landing zone above tree line for the helicopter.

The helicopter landed at approximately 5 p.m. and the hiker was quickly loaded inside. By 5:32 PM, the helicopter was airborne and in route to Elliot Hospital in Manchester, New Hampshire, where the hiker would receive further medical treatment. The name of the hiker is currently being withheld.
