While the big mountains might get most of the attention, the Adirondacks also have some stellar peaks that offer breathtaking views without you needing to trudge up over 4,000 feet.
Near the top of that list has to be Coney Mountain.
This 2,264-foot peak is located just a few miles south of Tupper Lake. The bald summit of Coney Mountain offers stunning 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains and Tupper Lake. For those who enjoy stargazing, Coney is a popular dark sky site thanks to its remote location.
The hike to the summit follows a 1.1-mile trail (2.2 miles round trip), making it a wonderful trek for hikers of all abilities. The trail is a steady climb with a total elevation gain of a little more than 500 feet.
Coney Mountain is part of the Tupper Lake Triad, a hiking challenge that also includes nearby Mount Arab and Goodman Mountain.
The trailhead and a small parking lot are located on Route 30 near the border of Hamilton and Franklin counties.
