Man Arrested For Driving on Sunday River Slopes, Causing $45K In Damage

A Maine man has been arrested for allegedly driving on a ski slope at Sunday River and causing $45,000 in damage.

According to the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, police arrested Jesse Bates, 33, at his home in Mexico, Maine on Wednesday night.

Bates is being accused of driving his car driving onto the Sunday River property early Sunday morning, tearing up a ski slope, and crashing into ski lift scan gate before fleeing the scene.

Officers were called to Sunday River at 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning, March 9, to investigate the incident. They reportedly found “significant damage” to the ski slope behind the South Ridge Lodge from large, deep ruts made by a vehicle.

Deputies worked with Sunday River security to idenitify the vehicle involved, the suspect, and his address.

The vehicle, a dark-colored 2022 Subaru Impreza, was reportedly found at Bates’ home. The vehicle reportedly had extensive body damage.

Officials said Bates is charged with Aggravated Criminal Mischief and Violation of Conditions of Release.
