A New York University student was found deceased at Shawangunk Ridge in New York after being reported missing.
Ray Brook Dispatch was contacted by NYU Campus Safety at 7 a.m. on May 15 for assistance regarding a missing 20-year-old student. He had last been seen on May 12, and was said to be upset when he left.
The student sent a picture of himself hiking on Shawangunk Ridge the day following his departure. Rangers were joined by New York State Police to search this area in an effort to locate the student using K9s, drones, and a helicopter.
Crews spotted the hiker below the cliff line of Gertrude’s Nose trail at 2:45 p.m. A high angle rope recovery was set up to lift the subject up the 90-foot cliff.
Crews then carried the student one mile out of the woods and met the Ulster County Medical Examiner. Resources were clear at 8:30 p.m.
