Rattlesnake Found in New York Lean-To

There’s plenty of things you don’t want to find in your lean-to after a long, hard day of hiking.

A group of people who claimed the lean-to before you, perhaps. Certainly hungry, energetic mice.

But a rattlesnake? That has to be at the top of the list.

That’s what campers found in a lean-to in Bolton, New York, on Saturday. Even worse than discovering it on arrival, it appears the campers had already set up in the lean-to and were woken up in the night by the rattler.

New York Department of Environmental Conservation rangers received a call from the campers at 3:35 a.m. on July 6 reporting that they had found a rattlesnake in their lean-to.

Rangers Donnegan and Kabrehl responded to the call. The rangers removed the snake and relocated it nearby so the campers could retrieve their gear.
