Snowboarder Escapes Avalanche on Mount Washington

It might be early in the season, but avalanches still pose a threat to skiers and snowboarders, especially on big peaks like Mount Washington.

That fact was on display last Friday, November 29 at Tuckerman Ravine where a snowboarder triggered a small, early season avalanche in Chicken Rock Gully.

The thin wind slab chased the snowboarder down the mountain, but the snowboarder was able to stay ahead of the debris and avoid getting buried.

A foot of snow was recorded on the Mount Washington summit the previous day combined with 50 mph WNW winds overnight.

The avalanche incident was captured on video, and the Mount Washington Avalanche Center shared the video on their YouTube page.
