“Made Back East” bills itself as “a movie about shitty skiing conditions.”
But while that description paints a less than pretty picture of Northeast skiing, this film from Vagrants is a celebration of the beauty and culture of the region’s backcountry skiing.
The film is a rebuttal to the general ski community referring to our region as “Back East,” assuming that anybody who grew up skiing in the Northeast would eventually move West seeking “real skiing.”
But the filmmakers say that’s a false assumption. Their film focuses on the locals who call Northeast mountains home, and it follows six friends on a long-anticipated ski trip through the New England backcountry.
