Whitewater kayakers in New Hampshire celebrated the start of the New Year on Tuesday by braving cold temperatures and high water to paddle the Winnipesaukee River.

According to WMUR.com, overnight rains had the river running as high as anyone can remember for this time of year. It made for ideal conditions for experienced whitewater paddlers.

The annual New Year’s paddling event in Franklin draws kayakers from throughout the Northeast.
