The region should benefit from (or be cursed by, depending on your opinion of snow) the impacts of a weak to moderate El Nino. According to a study, winters during a weak El Nino tend to bring more snowfall to cities such as New York and Boston. During a weak El Niño, there is generally a balance between southern warmth and northern chill, resulting in ample energy and moisture for storms.
