Get ready for a heartbreaker on Valentine’s Day.
And, no, I’m not talking about the disaster that is your love life.
New Hampshire’s Mount Monadnock will be the site of a brutal new mountain race that will debut on February 14.
The Heartbreaker Mountain Race will challenge participants to race up and down Monadnock via the White Dot Trail, starting at the park headquarters, climbing to the summit, and coming back down the trail to finish back at headquarters. The course features an elevation gain of roughly 1,900 feet.

Organizers describe the race as difficult and dangerous, and it is recommended for mountain-savvy individuals only.
Racers must be prepared for possible subzero temps, high winds, and lots of ice and snow. Participants are required to have traction, proper apparel for various weather conditions, water and nutrition (there are no aid stations on the mountain), and a cell phone.
There will be a three-hour cutoff. The race begins at 9 a.m. Entry is $35.
The event is organized by Running For A Cause, a New Hampshire-based running organizations that aims to build strong, vibrant communities by addressing social and economic challenges and fostering civic engagement through raising funds from partnerships and organizing running events.
