Dan Mathers – Editor

As the editorial director for New England Outdoors Media, Dan serves as the editor for Northeast Explorer and New England Boating. He is a writer and editor with a long history of working for newspapers, magazines, marketing companies, and medical websites. But the outdoors have always been his true love. He is an avid hiker, kayaker, and trail runner. Don’t be fooled — he is a TERRIBLE runner. He has the short, stubby legs of a Jack Russell Terrier and the cardio of a three-pack-a-day smoker. But he’s plenty dumb enough to not know when to quit, so he’s completed several 100-mile races, and he’s competed in such events as the 24-hour World’s Toughest Mudder and Spartan Death Race. He started the New England outdoors site Six States in 2006, which later morphed into Northeast Explorer in 2011. Northeast Explorer joined New England Outdoors Media in Spring 2025.
