Hiker Dies On Mount Willard In New Hampshire

A hiker died yesterday afternoon after suffering a medical emergency while hiking on Mount Willard in Carroll, New Hampshire.

According to New Hampshire Fish and Game officials, conservation officers received a report of a hiker suffering from a medical emergency on the Mount Willard Trail at 2:52 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23.

Passing hikers reportedly began CPR while a call was made to 911.

Twin Mountain Fire and EMS personnel responded with medical gear, hiking in a quarter-mile to the scene, where they began lifesaving efforts.

In addition, Appalachian Mountain Club personnel from the Highland Center and volunteers from Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue, along with conservation officers, responded.

Unfortunately, officials said their lifesaving efforts were not enough, and the hiker passed away.

The hiker, identified as John Campbell, 69, of North Woodstock, New Hampshire, was reportedly going on a short hike with his wife when he collapsed.

Officials said both Campbell and his wife are both Hike Safe cardholders.
