Rescuers carried an injured hiker down roughly a half-mile of wet, slippery terrain off New Hampshire’s Artist’s Bluff yesterday.
New Hampshire Fish and Game officials received a report of a hiker who had fallen and suffered an injury that prevented him from walking at 1:20 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29.
The 42-year-old hiker from North Carolina was on the Artist’s Bluff and Bald Mountain Loop Trail, roughly a half-mile from the trailhead, at the time of the injury.
The hiker had reportedly been hiking with family for the day.
A conservation officer responded to the area to help the hiker down the trail. After evaluating the injury and the wet slippery terrain, the officer made a call for a carryout. The Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team, along with other conservation officers, responded to the scene.
The hiker was placed in a litter and carried down the trail, arriving at the trailhead at 3:29 p.m. He was evaluated and then taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment.
