Mount Washington Summit Gets First Inch Of Snow

Mount Washington received its first real snowfall of the season last night, a sure sign that winter is beginning to take hold on New England’s highest peaks.

According to a post on the Mount Washington Observatory Facebook page, the summit received 1.2 inches of snow overnight—the first snow event of at least an inch this season.

The snowfall followed a day in which the New Hampshire peak was soaked in rain.

The snowfall brought the monthly total for snow on Mount Washington to 1.6 inches. That’s well below the peak’s October average, which is 19 inches.
