Vermont State Police and members of several rescue crews recovered the body of hiker found on Camel’s Hump in Vermont Wednesday morning.
According to Vermont State Police, they received a call at 11:35 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28 from two hikers who had discovered a man’s body on Camel’s Hump. They were roughly a mile-and-a-half up the Forest City Trail from the parking area in Huntington when they found the body.
Members of the Vermont State Police, Huntington Rescue, Richmond Rescue, Waterbury Backcountry Rescue, and game wardens from the Vermont Department of Fish & Wildlife responded to the scene. They found the body of a man, later identified as Jason April, 50, of Denver, Colorado.
The Forest City Trail was closed for much of the afternoon while recovery operations were underway.
Crews recovered the body from the mountain and transported him to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
State police officials said there are no indications that the death is suspicious.
Camel’s Hump has been the scene of several incidents in October. Earlier this month, a group of six hikers who became lost had to be rescued on the mountain. A day earlier, a juvenile hiker was rescued after she became separated from her family.
