A Rhode Island man says he saw a Bigfoot in Connecticut while driving home from a friend’s place late at night after July Fourth. And Bigfoot investigators say his story sounds very credible.
According to a report listed on the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO), Kevin Klimas, of Westerly, Rhode Island, said he got an up-close sighting of the creature while driving home at 1:45 a.m. on July 5.
The sighting reportedly occurred in Voluntown, Connecticut, near Pachaug State Forest near the Connecticut-Rhode Island border. With 27,000 acres, Pachaug is Connecticut’s largest state forest.
Klimas said he had just started driving home from a friend’s cabin just outside the state forest when a creature stepped into the road immediately in front of him. He said he had to slam on his brakes to avoid colliding with it.
After Klimas came to a stop, he said he saw a roughly eight-and-a-half-foot tall, bipedal creature walk swiftly across the road.
“It had coarse, matted, and greasy looking long brown hair covering every part of its body I could see,” said Klimas. “Its legs were shorter than its torso and its arms literally hung down to right around knee height.”
Klimas said the creature had “extremely” broad shoulders and the top of its head seemed to “cone up slightly.” He said it never stopped and never turned to look at him, so he was only able to see a side profile of its head and face.
The creature reportedly walked like a human and was able to cross the road and be back in the woods in barely three steps.
“Make no mistake. This was not a bear,” said Klimas. “This was a cryptid. I’m no longer a skeptic. I’m certain of that.”
BFRO investigators who interviewed Klimas described him as “credible” and “honest.” They added that they believe the woods around Voluntown to have “significant Bigfoot activity,” and the area has been the subject of other reported sightings and investigations.
Reported Bigfoot sightings are not uncommon in New England. In August 2025, a couple reported seeing a Bigfoot—or sasquatch—as they were leaving Grafton Notch State Park in Newry, Maine.
In 2015, a resident of Turner, Maine, recorded video footage of a tall bipedal creature walking in the woods near his home. And in northern New Hampshire, residents have reported seeing tall, thin, Bigfoot-like creatures they call Wood Devils for years.
