A new law that recently took effect in Connecticut requires all kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards to have the owner’s contact information on them.
Under Connecticut Public Act 26-60, all unregistered vessels in Connecticut are now required to be identified, including all paddlecraft.
Current and valid contact information must be printed on or attached to the vessel.
Connecticut paddlers can request an “If Found” sticker, which is a waterproof sticker where they can include their name and two phone numbers and attach it to the vessel.
Officials ask for two phone numbers because if a paddler falls into the water, their phone might be in the water and no longer work.
Officials said the sticker helps emergency responders quickly determine if there is an emergency when an empty boat is found.
