Paddlers have a new campsite to enjoy on the Connecticut River.
Staff from the Appalachian Mountain Club recently completed the new Connecticut River Paddlers’ Trail campsite in East Hartford, Connecticut.
The new site is located at the confluence of the Podunk River and the Connecticut River on land owned by Goodwin University.
According to the Connecticut River Conservancy, the site closes a 28-mile-gap in campsites along the Connecticut River and provides a rest point in an urbanized stretch of the river.
The new Podunk River Campsite includes two tent platforms, a bench, a privy, signage, and stairs.
The Connecticut River Paddlers’ Trail is a series of primitive campsites and river access points stretching more than 400 miles from the river’s headwaters in New Hampshire’s Connecticut Lakes down to Long Island Sound.
While most of the river shore is privately owned, a number of landowners have agreed to host the public at primitive campsites on their land.
