A 23-year-old hiker from Georgia was killed Monday after he fell from an unmarked trail at Sleeping Giant State Park in Connecticut.
According to officials with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), the hiker was identified as William Gatch, 23, of Statesboro, Georgia.
The DEEP Dispatch Center reportedly received a call regarding a hiker who fell from an unmarked trail in Sleeping Giant State Park at around 11:45 a.m. on Monday, April 6.
Emergency response crews were sent to the park and found Gatch in the woods, having sustained injuries as a result of his fall.
Officials said Gatch succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
DEEP Environmental Conservation Police said their preliminary investigation indicates the death was accidental.
