Hikers will get the chance to combine their love of hiking with helping to support their favorite Vermont trails this September.
The Green Mountain Club has announced that Long Trail Day—the club’s annual community fundraiser and hike-a-thon for Vermont trails—will be held this year on Saturday, September 19.
Long Trail Day is the Green Mountain Club’s only fundraising event, and club officials said hiker participation is critical to the work of helping the club sustainably maintain and protect over 500 miles of hiking trails in Vermont.
Funds raised during the event go directly toward the club’s work putting crew members in the field, caretakers on the mountains, and conserving more of the Long Trail.

Participants can choose their own distance and fundraising goals (although the club recommends $272—one dollar for each mile of the Long Trail), and they can register as an individual or form a team.
Hikers who raise $272 will get a pair of socks from our Long Trail Day sponsor, Darn Tough Vermont Socks. They can then celebrate with a hike. Participants can choose any trail and date that works for them, or join GMC staff and volunteers as they celebrate Long Trail Day with trail magic and group hikes on Saturday, September 19.
Hikers who can’t hike on September 19 can also choose another day.
