Rescue crews carried an injured hiker over nearly three miles of difficult terrain in the dark near Mount Osceola in New Hampshire Saturday night.
According to New Hampshire Fish and Game officials, they received a report of an injured hiker near the summit of Mount Osceola at around 3:20 p.m. on Saturday, October 4. The 28-year-old from Massachusetts had reportedly suffered a lower leg injury.
Conservation officers and members of the Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team responded to the Tripoli Road trailheard and began ascending the trail at 4:30 p.m.
Crews reached the injured hiker at roughly 6 p.m. They packaged her into a litter and began a lengthy 2.7-mile carryout.
The rescue effort included more than 20 people as they carried the injured hiker while navigating difficult terrain in the dark.
They reached the trailhead at 10:15 p.m.
An ambulance took the injured hiker to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.
