Katahdin Sign Vandalized

The famous summit sign atop Katahdin in Maine was recently vandalized, and park officials are looking for the culprits.

On Thursday, September 11, Baxter State Park officials posted on Facebook asking for the public’s assistance regarding the act of vandalism.

The letters “H.M.” and “J.M” were carved into the middle of the Baxter Peak summit sign on Katahdin. Officials are requesting any information anyone may have concerning the incident.

“Did you witness the act? Have you observed any social media posts from the individual(s) responsible, or heard any other discussions related to this?” posted Baxter State Park officials. “Are you the individual(s) who did this carving? We encourage you to contact us and appreciate any assistance.”

Anyone with relevant information is asked to call Baxter State Park Headquarters at 207-723-5140, seven days a week between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
