A popular coastal nature preserve near Maine’s border with Canada has reopened after being closed since early July for extensive trail work.
Officials with the Maine Coast Heritage Trust announced yesterday that Boot Head Preserve in Lubec, Maine is officially open. With the exception of some “soft” openings, the preserve has been closed since July 1 while it has undergone “significant” trail improvements.

That trail work included hardening the trail with a combination of crushed stone and gravel, reducing rocky, rooted, and eroding sections of trail, rerouting through problem sections, and installing a new boardwalk.
The 400-acre preserve features coastal bogs, cobble beaches, and rocky promontories that offer stunning views of Maine’s Bold Coast. The hiking trail meanders through moss-covered coastal spruce fir forest, a spectacular coastal peat bog, and two beaches.
