Maine To Host 3-Event Mountain Bike Championship Series

A new mountain bike race series debuting in August will bring together three of Maine’s premier mountain biking destinations for an enduro-style championship spanning three weekends.

The inaugural Maine Gravity Race Series will debut August 15 and 16 at Maine’s Sugarloaf Mountain. That weekend will mark the first race of the three-event series, which will also include stops at the Camden Snow Bowl on August 29 and 30, and the grand finale at Mount Abram on September 19 and 20, with each venue offering its own distinct character.

Unlike traditional downhill mountain bike racing, enduro rewards riders who can combine speed, technical skill, and endurance. Competitors race against the clock on timed downhill stages while using untimed transfers between stages, creating a format that has become one of the fastest-growing disciplines in mountain biking.

Each event will feature a two-day weekend experience, with Saturday being a practice day where riders can get their lines dialed, explore the course, and prep for the event. Sunday is race day.

Mountain bikers can register for a single event, compete in two races, or contest the full three-race championship. Overall series winners will be determined by combined results across all three venues, with male and female champions recognized in multiple age divisions.

Race categories include Enduro—a full race format with three to five timed stages—and Enduro Lite—a shorter option featuring two to four timed stages that is ideal for newer racers.

Age divisions range from under 14 through 50+, making the series accessible to a wide range of riders.
