New Mountain Bike Trails Being Built In Maine

A new mountain bike trail network is coming to Maine.

Workers recently broke ground on what will become new mountain bike trails in Rolfe Hill Forest in Casco, Maine.

The Loon Echo Land Trust purchased the Rolfe Hill Forest from the Rolfe Family in early 2024. The land had been in the family since the 1700s and was home to the first homestead in Casco, the Gay Family homestead.

Located on Quaker Ridge Road in Casco, Rolfe Hill is 400 acres of mixed woodlands, wetlands, and streams. The property has long been used for ATVing, snowmobiling, hunting, hiking, snowshoeing, and skiing. ATVs and snowmobiles are allowed on designated trails only.

The land trust’s purchase last year permanently secured public access to the property, and they plan to develop more trails.

The first phase of their project includes developing more than five miles of new mountain bike trails, which they expect to have completed in 2026.
