A hiker suffering a medical emergency near the summit of Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire was rescued by helicopter Friday afternoon.
According to New Hampshire Fish and Game officials, they received a report of a hiker near the upper junction of the White Dot and White Cross Trails on Mount Monadnock who was experiencing what was believed to be a life-threatening medical emergency at 1:20 p.m. on Friday, August 14.
Conservation officers, park staff, and volunteers from the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team responded to the hiker in distress.
A park ranger was near the hiker when the original 911 call was placed and was able to quicky reach the hiker and stabilize them.
Officials said the hiker, a 49-year-old man from Pennsylvania, was prepared for the hike and had previous hiking experience.
Conservation officers requested assistance from the New Hampshire Army National Guard Blackhawk helicopter.
A flight crew was able to land on Mount Monadnock near the hiker at 4:10 PM. The helicopter crew flew the hiker to a hospital in Manchester, New Hampshire, where he was evaluated for his medical emergency.
No other information on the hiker’s condition was immediately available.
