New York forest rangers responded to a report of an injured dog on New Year’s Day, but instead found a hiker who needed help with cold feet.
Rangers received a report of an injured dog on the Pecoy Notch Trail on Twin Mountain in Elka Park, New York at 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, January 1.
A forest ranger hiked to the location from the Roaring Kill Trailhead, reaching the hiker and a 40-pound dog.
The ranger found the dog had cold front paws, but was otherwise in good health. The hiker reportedly was wearing what the ranger described as “spring/summer hiking boots,” and was suffering from cold feet.
The ranger provided foot warmers to the hiker. Another ranger arrived at the location and provided the dog with treats.
Rangers reportedly used the hike out to educate the 31-year-old hiker from Pawling about proper winter clothing and footwear.
