Sunday River To Host Tough Mountain Challenge July 25

If your idea of a fun summer day includes mud, obstacles, and beer, then you’ll want to be at Sunday River in July.

Sunday River Resort in Maine will host its annual Tough Mountain Challenge on Saturday, July 25. It’s part of a weekend of events that includes live music Friday night and kids races Sunday.

The resort’s annual 5K mud and obstacle race has been held since 2010 and challenges participants with a course filled with mud, water, walls, woods, and whatever else organizers decide to throw at them.

The event features 23 obstacles with intimidating names like “Cage Choker,” “Shredder Mud Crawl,” and “The Panic Plank.” Participants will need to navigate steep inclines, muddy barbed wire crawls, and getting blasted by snow guns and people throwing balls at them.

But not all the obstacles are painful. After all, the obstacle “Shotgun Station” is a chance for a mid-course break where runners get the option to shotgun a beer.

The weekend festivities begin Friday, July 24 with early check-in and hours of live music. More live music follows the Tough Mountain Challenge Saturday, and the resort will host three waves of a kids course Sunday.
