Rescuers carried a hiker with a “significant” ankle injury through roughly two miles of woods in Vermont’s Green Mountains on Saturday.
According to officials with the Killington Police Department, members of the Killington Search and Rescue Team, the Snowbowl Ski Patrol, and fire department crews from several nearby towns responded to a report of an injured hiker near Worth Mountain in Hancock, Vermont on Saturday, October 3.
The hiker was reportedly on a multi-day backpacking trip when he suffered the injury. Officials said he was located roughly two miles into the woods.

Rescuers reported that the hiker was well-prepared with a tent, a sleeping bag, and “good company,” but he could barely put any weight on his leg.
Rescuers used a carryout wheel to transport the hiker out of the woods. They described the carryout as “slow, steady work over rough ground.”
They reached the transport vehicle just before 4 p.m., and the hiker was taken down the mountain and transferred to EMS.
The incident was one of two rescues of injured hikers in Vermont over the weekend. On Sunday, crews rescued an injured hiker on Mount Hunger.
