New York officials have released video from a rescue last week in which a hiker was rescued after missing for two days in the Dix Range.
The dramatic footage shows the hiker being hoisted into a helicopter hovering above.
The overdue hiker was found alive on Thursday, February 26 after a two-day search by rescuers in the Dix Range in the Adirondacks.
The Dix Range is located in the southeastern region of the High Peaks Wilderness. It’s know for being a challenging range, and it’s high point is Dix Mountain at 4,855 feet.
New York Department of Environmental Conservation officials said rangers received a call at 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25 from a woman reporting her spouse who had gone hiking in the Dix Range was overdue.
The hiker, a 58-year-old from Mechanicville, New York, had reportedly left Tuesday for a planned two-day hike. The spouse reported the last contact with the hiker had been 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday. At that time, the hiker was reportedly six miles from the end of the hike, and the hiker reported being tired.

Forest rangers located the hiker’s vehicle at Elk Lake Trailhead in North Hudson at 9:50 p.m. Seven rangers searched the area Wednesday night. Thursday morning, more than 20 forest rangers took part in the search.
A New York State Police aviation unit helped to land rangers high up on the range to search the high elevations. The aviation unit also searched for the missing hiker from the air.
Rangers found the missing hiker near the Lillian Brook Trail at 2:55 p.m. on Thursday. The hiker reportedly was suffering from frostbite and mild hypothermia.
