Two hikers who were not carrying lights had to be rescued Saturday after they got lost and were overcome by darkness.
According to New Hampshire Fish and Game officials, conservation officers received a report at 8:45 p.m. on Saturday of two hikers who were lost in Swanzey.
The hikers, Gibson Chase-Pinkney, 28, of Keene, New Hampshire, and Adam Hugh, 24, of Richmond, New Hampshire, began their hike that evening around 5 p.m. The pair planned to hike a .7-mile section of trail that they had hiked before.
During their hike, the pair became lost and ended up off of the trail before they were overcome by darkness. Officials said the two were not carrying lights.
The hikers made a call to 911 that provided GPS coordinates for their location. A team of Keene Fire Department personnel located the pair just below the summit of West Hill at approximately 10:34 p.m. The hikers was transported out of the woods on UTVs at 1130 p.m. and refused medical attention.
