Maine’s Sunday River Resort will debut their new Barker 6 chairlift – the fastest six-person chairlift in North America – in a ceremony on Saturday, December 9. And you have a chance to participate in the first chair experience at the grand opening.
Sunday River officials say the Barker 6 marks a milestone in speed and efficiency. Matching the caliber of sister resort Big Sky, Sunday River will be the only other resort in North America with two ultra-modern Doppelmayr D-Line lifts.
This Doppelmayr design, featured in the chairlift fleet of Loon Resort, Boyne Mountain, The Highlands, and Brighton, underscores a growing design trend across Boyne Resort properties.
The Barker 6 integrates comfort, capacity, and speed. The lift features six ergonomically heated seats enclosed by a signature Sunday River Red bubble. With sixty-three chairs, weighing in at nearly one ton each, guests will be transported up the mountain in just over four and a half minutes.
The Barker 6 stands as the most recent among a series of upgrades completed by Sunday River. Notably, the Jordan 8, unveiled last winter, claims the title of North America’s fastest eight-place lift, featuring the iconic Sunday River Red weather-resistant bubble.
Sunday River passholders and guests will have the opportunity to participate in a raffle for the first chair experience at the Barker 6 grand opening. All proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the Bethel Food Pantry to support their efforts this holiday season.
