A big shakeup is coming to the skiing scene in Jackson, New Hampshire.
Erik Mogensen, the president and general manager of Black Mountain in Jackson, New Hampshire, announced this morning that the company that owns the Indy Pass—a popular international pass for ski resorts that aren’t owned by a corporate chain—is moving its headquarters to Jackson, New Hampshire.
Additionally, Mogensen revealed he is buying out the other owners of Black Mountain and making it fully private. That’s a change from the community-based model the owners had been working toward.
Mogensen is the CEO of Entabeni Systems, the company that owns both the Indy Pass and Black Mountain. IEntebani Systems, bought Black Mountain in October 2024 with plans to make it into a community-owned co-op ski area.
“All of my experiences over the last 18 months have allowed me to truly reconcile why I made the abrupt decision to purchase Black Mountain in the first place,” Mogensen said in a social media post this morning. “I now have clarity on what I want my life to be like, and the difference I hope to make through Entabeni and Indy Pass for skiing and outdoor recreation. It has shown me that I need to make a long-term life decision to buy Black Mountain, now for a second time.”
Mogensen said Entabeni Systems and Indy Ski Pass will move out of their current headquarters in Colorado and will move all operations to New Hampshire and the Mount Washington Valley.
“Black Mountain will become a laboratory and incubator where we will aggressively try to solve some of the biggest challenges facing independent ski areas. Aging infrastructure, rising costs, and big money competition demand critical thinking and fresh solutions,” said Mogensen. “Our world class team will permanently relocate, building their own lives in the Mount Washington Valley. I look forward to building my life and a family in this incredible place I will now call home.”
Opened in 1934, Black Mountain is the oldest lift-operated ski area in New Hampshire.
Last year, the ski area remained open into May. This year, they had their earliest opening in 91 years.
