Fee Increases Proposed For 9 Campgrounds In Green Mountains, Finger Lakes

The U.S. Forest Service is proposing fee increases at nine campgrounds in the Green Mountain and Finger Lake National Forests.

The proposed changes range from an increase of $5 to $25.

Under the proposal, both Backbone Horse Campground and Blueberry Patch Campground in the Finger Lakes National Forest in New York would see their single site fee increase from $15 to $20.

In the Green Mountain National Forest in Vermont, Chittenden Brook Campground would have a single site fee increase from the current $15 up to $25. Grout Bond Campground in Vermont would increase from $16 for a single site to $25.

A single site at Hapgood Pond Campground would go from $20 to $30. Moosalamoo Campground would increase from its current single site fee of $15 up to $25.

A single site at Silver Lake Campground would increase from $10 to $20.

The biggest jump of all would be for a single site at the Somerset Airfield Campground, which would go from free right now to $25.

Additionally, a group site at the Potomoc Group Campground in New York’s Finger Lakes would increase from a night fee of $20 to $50.

The public can currently comment on the proposed recreation fee changes. The comment period is set to end by close of business on July 31, 2026.
