A hiker collapsed and died after summiting Rocky Mountain in the Adirondacks last weekend.
According to New York Department of Environmental Conservation officials, forest rangers received a report of a hiker who had collapsed at the summit of Rocky Mountain at 2:25 p.m. on Sunday, September 13.
Rocky Mountain in Inlet, New York, is located near Fourth Lake in the Fulton Chain Lakes. The peak is 2,225 feet with an exposed summit that is popular for its views of the surrounding area.
The climb up the mountain is half a mile with roughly 450 feet of elevation gain. While the hike up reportedly begins flat, it also is known to have steep sections with rocks and roots that can make the hike deceptively challenging.
Three rangers arrived at the scene at 3:30 p.m. Crews from Inlet Fire Department and local EMS were there performing CPR.
Unfortunately, the subject reportedly passed away. Rangers assisted with the carryout of the 51-year-old from Lowville, New York.
The cause of death is under investigation.
