Hiker Rescued After Falling More Than 50 Feet From Overlook In New Hampshire

Rescuers carried an injured hiker over rugged, mountainous terrain after she fell more 50 feet while hiking in New Hampshire on Saturday.

According to New Hampshire Fish and Game officials, conservation officers received a report of an injured hiker at 3:27 p.m. on Saturday, August 16. The hiker had reportedly slipped and fallen between 50 to 100 feet down Mount Pierce near a scenic overlook.

Conservation officers responded to the trailhead and began hiking up to assess the situation. They located the injured hiker who was identified as Meghan Mason, of Braintree, Massachusetts.

Mason was 0.6 miles up the Crawford Path and on a spur trail. Due to her precarious location and the rugged terrain, rescuers from the Mountain Rescue Service, Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue Team, and Twin Mountain Fire and Rescue were called to assist. Volunteers were able to carry Mason down to the trailhead to a waiting ambulance at 7:10pm.

She was taken by ambulance to Littleton Regional Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
