Adirondacks Updates: New Parking Areas, Flooded Trails

Two new parking areas were recently completed in the western Adirondacks, while two trails in the southwestern part of the region are currently flooded.

In the latest Adirondack Outdoor Recreation Bulletin released by the New York Department of Environmental Conservation, officials announced that two trailhead parking areas in the Bog River Complex have been completed.

The Bog River Complex includes almost 25,000 acres of Adirondack Forest Preserve and Conservation Easement Lands within the Adirondack Park.

The new parking areas include one at the Bog River Trailhead and another at the Winding Falls Trailhead.

Officials said the parking areas provide safer access to the popular Bog River cross-country skiing trails.

In the southwestern Adirondacks, two trails are currently flooded in the Independence River Wild Forest.

Officials said the Centennial Ski Trail has been flooded by beaver activity in several locations, mostly located near Partridgeville Road and towards the center of the trail.

Also, the bridge on Pine Lake Trail at the Pine Lake Inlet is currently flooded. Hikers may be able to cross upstream from the bridge site, but the trail is closed at this location to snowmobiles.

Last Week, officials said the Little Green/Little Clear and Saint Germain Pond roads in Saranac Lake Wild Forest are now closed through winter until the end of mud season.

Winter parking for Little Green area and Adirondack Rail Trail is located at the end of Station Road, off of Fish Hatchery Road.
