Skier Caught In Avalanche In Tuckerman Ravine

A skier was uninjured after being caught in a small avalanche and tumbling down Tuckerman Ravine Saturday.

A video posted on the Mount Washington Avalanche Center Facebook page Sunday shows a skier beginning to ski down the ravine when the avalanche begins. The skier falls and tumbles down much of the ravine in the avalanche before coming to a stop. The skier immediately signaled being okay.

It was one of two skier-triggered avalanches in the ravine yesterday. Both can be viewed in the video.

MWAC officials cautioned skiers to remember that small avalanches can have serious consequences if they cause a fall in steep terrain.

According to the MWAC Avalanche Forecast, the avalanche danger in the Presidential Range is considered “considerable” at elevations above 3,000 feet for Sunday, February 8. The forecast for Monday shows considerable danger between 3,000 and 5,000 feet, and moderate danger above 5,000 feet.
