As southeastern Massachusetts digs out from a historic blizzard, it seems like the perfect day to announce a spring trail race in the region, right?
The organizers of the Spring Fever Trail Run, an event held annually at Wompatuck State Park in Hingham, Massachusetts, officially announced today that this year’s event will take place on Saturday, April 11.
The event offers participants three different race options: a 5K course, a 5-mile course, and an 8-hour race that has runners complete as many laps as they can of the 5-mile course.

The Spring Fever Trail Run is organized by TA Fitness, an obstacle-focused gym where members train on the same types of obstacles found on the television show American Ninja Warrior and at Tough Mudder and Spartan races. TA Fitness has locations in Weymouth and Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Both trail courses start and finish at the Wompatuck campground, and both are mostly dirt trail with some pavement leaving and entering the campground. The trails are deceptively technical, with roots and rocks, and the 5K course features roughly 150 feet of elevation gain while the 5-mile course features roughly 350 feet of elevation gain.
The event begins at 8 a.m. Runners in the 8-hour race must begin their final lap by 2:50 p.m.

After a streak of several years of rainy race days, Spring Fever’s organizers are hoping to reverse the curse by reversing direction. This year’s courses will run in the opposite direction from previous years.
Every finisher earns a custom award marking the distance they conquered. Runners who register before March 25 will also score some exclusive race swag.
A community food and drink table will be located at the start/finish area and will include gluten-free, vegan, and nut-free options. A water and aid station will also be located along the course, which will be manned by Northeast Explorer editor Dan Mathers and his (some say charming, some say creepy) mannequin head, Heather.
