3 Hikers With No Lights Rescued On Mount Lafayette

Three hikers who had no lights had to be rescued on Mount Lafayette in New Hampshire last night.

New Hampshire Fish and Game officials received a report of three hikers who needed assistance on Mount Lafayette in Franconia, New Hampshire at 9:10 p.m. on Monday, May 11.

According to Fish and Game officials, the hikers had started hiking the Franconia Ridge Loop at 9 a.m. on Monday. By 9 p.m., they found themselves roughly two miles from the trailhead with no lights and no way to locate the trail. With the temperatures dropping into the low 20s and because they were unable to continue safely, they called for help.

Conservation officers responded to the trailhead and began hiking up the Old Bridle Path. After hiking roughly two miles, they located the three hikers.

Conservation officers provided the hikers with lights and assisted them down the trail, arriving back at the trailhead at 2 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12.
