A helicopter crew was called in to rescue an injured hiker near the summit of Mount Marcy in New York last week.
According to New York Department of Environmental Conservation officials, forest rangers received a report of a hiker with a lower leg injury near the summit of Mount Marcy in the Adirondack High Peaks at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, August 10.
At 5,344 feet high, Mount Marcy is the tallest mountain in New York.
The 50-year-old hiker from Rochester, New York had reportedly slipped on a wet rock and heard a crack in their ankle.
A passing hiker, who was a podiatrist, splinted the ankle.

A New York State Police helicopter flew to the scene, and forest rangers harnessed the hiker and then hoisted them into the helicopter.
The injured hiker was flown to a nearby hospital while a ranger hiked out with the other member of the hiking party. The incident was clear at 4:11 p.m.
