Emergency crews rescued a rock climber injured in a 20-foot fall at Whitehorse Ledge in New Hampshire on Saturday.
According to New Hampshire Fish and Game officials, conservation officers received a report of a climber who had fallen on Whitehorse Ledge at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 31.
The 29-year-old climber from Connecticut was reportedly climbing on the Inferno route, located on the south buttress portion of the cliff.
Officials said he was nearly 150 feet off the ground when he fell about 20 feet. His climbing gear stopped his fall, but he reportedly suffered an ankle injury.
The climber was climbing with friends who were able to lower him to the ground and call 911 for help.
Along with conservation officers, rescuers from the North Conway Fire Department, Conway Fire Department, and Lakes Region Search and Rescue responded.
The climber was under a mile from the trailhead. He was placed in a litter and carried out, arriving at a waiting ambulance shortly before 7 p.m. He was then taken to the Memorial Hospital in North Conway for treatment.
It’s the second climbing incident at Whitehorse Ledge recently. On October 25, a rock climber who was unroped and climbing alone had to be rescued when he became nervous 500 feet off the ground.
