One of the most scenic stretches of New York’s 358-mile Long Path is now permanently protected.
New York-New Jersey Trail Conference (NYNJTC) officials recently announced they have secured the permanent protection of 123 acres at Middleburgh Cliffs in Schoharie County, New York.
Officials said the rugged landscape overlooking the Schoharie Valley to Vroman’s Nose and beyond had been privately owned for years and includes one of the most spectacular viewpoints along the Long Path.
The Long Path is New York’s premier long-distance hiking trail, stretching 358 miles from the George Washington Bridge in New York City to John Boyd Thacher State Park near Albany, connecting many of New York’s parks, preserves, and state forest lands along the way.
NYNJTC officials said the move eliminates the threat of a future 2.5-mile road walk that could have disrupted the hiking experience.
