A hiker who got in trouble with New York officials last year after he posted photos on Facebook of a keg party atop an Adirondack peak has been found guilty of leading a group of more than 15 people in the High Peaks Wilderness Area.
According to an article on LakePlacidNews.com, the defendant, Raja Bhatt of Queens, was not present last week when North Elba town Judge Dean Dietrich found him guilty and sentenced him to a $200 fine and $75 dollar surcharge.
Bhatt posted the photos of hikers celebrating on the summit of 4,161-foot Phelps Mountain with a small keg of beer on October 11, 2015, during a Columbus Day weekend when local mountains were loaded with hikers. But Bhatt says he didn’t organize the trip or bring the keg.
