Sunny Hill might be known as a family resort and golf course in Catskills, New York. But it’s throwing it’s muddy hat into the world of obstacle racing with what looks like a pretty gnarly fixed obstacle course.
The resort will be holding its 2nd annual Viking Obstacle Race on May 10, and will also be holding a fall race on September 20. It bills itself as the Northeast’s most challenging 5-mile, 30 permanent obstacle race. What makes this race appealing to those looking for a challenging race are the fixed obstacles.
Fixed obstacle courses are generally significantly more challenging than most national obstacle courses that have to set up obstacles and then take them down after the race. A fixed obstacle course is staying there, so course designers can build more elaborate, challenging obstacles because they don’t have to take them down.. That generally translates into much more punishing obstacles . . . if that appeals to you.
