Injured Hiker Rescued In New Hampshire After Fall On Fire Tower

Rescue crews helped transport an injured hiker roughly two miles down a New Hampshire mountain on Friday.

New Hampshire Fish and Game officials received a report of a 911 call from an injured hiker on the Iron Mountain Trail in Jackson, New Hampshire at 11:07 a.m. on Friday, April 24.

The 60-year-old hiker was with his wife. After reaching the summit of Iron Mountain, the hiker climbed up the fire tower to a platform, but he fell due to a loose board. His fall reportedly fractured his ankle and he was unable to walk.

New Hampshire conservation officers and members of Lakes Region Search and Rescue and Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue teams responded to the scene.

They hiked up nearly two miles to the scene with rescue gear and a litter.

The hiker was assessed, stabilized, and placed in the rescue litter. Officials said the little was equipped with a single large wheel, which was used to help during the carry.

Rescue crews arrived back at the trailhead parking area with the hiker at 3:45 p.m.

The hiker was then driven to Memorial Hospital in North Conway for evaluation and treatment.
